LuklA, E., Kotas, P., and Obrusnik, I. (1974). British JournalofIndustrial Medicine, 31, 288-291. Copper and zinc levels in peripheral nerve tissues of rats with experimental carbon-disulphide neuropathy. By means of neutron activation analysis the levels of zinc and copper in peripheral nerve tissue of two groups of rats with carbon-disulphide neuropathy were estimated. The neuropathy (diagnosed electromyographically) was evoked by inhalation of 3-6 mg CS2/litre of air (variant 1) or 2-4 mg CS2/litre of air (variant 2). Stationary Zn levels were found in control and exposed animals in both of the experimental variants, while the copper levels increased very significantly from 4-2 ± 0 3 ppm to 9 9 ± 1 7 ppm in experimental variant 1 and from 2-4 ± 0 3 ppm to 5 6 ± 0 6 ppm in variant 2. The experiments suggest that changes in metal metabolism of peripheral nerve tissue deserve attention as one of the possible pathological links in the development of carbondisulphide intoxication.

Histopathological and behavioral evaluations of the effects of crocin, safranal and insulin on diabetic peripheral neuropathy in rats
Objectives: Crocin and safranal, the major constituents of saffron, exert neuroprotective effects. In the present study, we investigated the effects of crocin and safranal (alone or in combination with insulin) on peripheral neuropathy in diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: Diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of 60 mg/kg of streptozotocin (STZ) and confirmed by blood glu...

Zinc deficiency is a common finding in hemodialysis patients. This element is an essential constituent of some intracellular enzymatic systems, so zinc deficiency is associated with several disorders. Some neurologic distrubances as peripheral neuropathy associated with zinc deficiency have been described in human. At present there is no sufficient data to recommend the measureme...
متن کاملThymus caramanicus jalas extract reduces serum blood glucose, ameliorates thermal hyperalgesia and motor deficit induced by diabetes in rats
Introduction: Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus could lead to neuropathy in central and peripheral nerve tissues and one of its main signs can be hyperalgesia and motor coordination defect. Due to the blood glucose lowering effect of Thymus species and the presence of polyphenolic compounds with high antioxidant capacity, in this study the effect of Thymus caramanicus jalas extract was investig...
متن کاملAnti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects of hyperbaric oxygen preconditioning in a rat model of cisplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy
Objective(s): Cisplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy is a debilitating side effect in patients receiving this drug. Recent studies suggest hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy as a new treatment approach for models of neural injury. The aim of the current study was to determine the protective effects of HBO preconditioning against peripheral neuropathy induced by Cisplati...
متن کاملHistologic and Histomorphometric Study on the Effect of Hydro-Alcoholic Aloe Vera Extract on Tissue Formation of Sciatic Nerve in Diabetic Male Rats
Background & Objective: Diabetes mellitus affects the metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins, which leads to the dysfunction of the central and peripheral nervous system. Reports suggest that Aloe Vera has anti-diabetic effects. Therefore, this study was carried out to determine the effect of hydro alcoholic extract of Aloe Vera on Sciatic nerve of the diabetic rats.Materials ...
